Mini Biography:

Zoe Saldana was born in New Jersey and raised in Queens, New York. When she was 10 years old, she and her family moved to the Dominican Republic where they would live for the next 7 years. While living in the Dominican Republic Zoe discovered a keen interest in performance dance, and began her training at the prestigious ECOS Espacio de Danza Dance Academy.  There she learned ballet as well as other dance forms. Not only did her training provide an excellent outlet for the enthusiastic and energetic youngster, it would also prove to be a fortunate precursor for the start of her professional acting career.

Why we like her:

We first came upon her in the movie Drumline (2002) where she played the girlfriend of Nick Cannon’s character.  She made a great impression on me then, and after her success playing Laila in that movie she was cast in Pirates of the Caribbean (2003).  Then she fell off the grid a little bit, had many solid movies to her credit, and she hit it big in 2009 with Star Trek and Avatar.  Even though her performance in Avatar was voice over’s she nailed the role, and seeing her do two good Sci-Fi films that were successful is an amazing feat.

She has many T.V. appearances, and has shown her ability to adapt to just about any role thrown her way.  She is in the process of finishing up two films in 2010 already, so we will definitely see more of her soon.
