VH1′s What Chilli Wants Shows You How Not to Find a Man!

My television somehow happened upon “What Chili Wants” on VH1.  I do not normally watch much reality television as I believe there is too much of it on these days.  It seems they have a show for everything and everyone; I stopped at this show because well Chili is a nice looking woman so it caught my attention.

Well the show starts and I quickly find out it is about Chili trying to find a perfect husband, here is a quick summary of what the show is about.

Chili of famous pop star group TLC is in search of finding her a perfect “husband.”  She seeks the guidance of love expert Tionna Smalls to guide her in finding her match made in heaven.  Chili of course has a list of requirements she has in finding her soulmate called, “Chilli’s  Checklist.” Will she meet her match?

When I realized what the show was about I realized on so many levels how much of a bad idea this was for Chilli because ultimately she looks like a confused woman who needs an expert to tell her how to find a man.  But I decided to watch with an open mind, even though I feel I will ultimately be proven right.

So, Chilli has this checklist that a man must have in order for her to date him, being that I have warned women in the past about these “lists” because all they do is make you end up alone.  Well Chilli’s list consisted of the following:

• He must be extremely attractive
• He must have a six pack (she would take a four pack, working towards six)
• He must have a big dick
• He can’t eat Pork
• He can’t drink
• He can’t smoke
• He has to love God
• Lord knows what the hell else is on there

This list is just ridiculous, it is obvious that she does not want to be realistic about finding someone to be with.  The fact that she decided to include the size of a mans sexual organ in her requirement was quite telling, how can you mention that in the same breath as saying he has to love god?

The not eating pork part was just straight comedy when I heard her say it, she truly seems like she wants to control every aspect of her mates life.  Maybe that is why her and Usher did not make it, he must have eaten a pork chop and that was a deal breaker.  I have lost all sorts of respect for Chilli, and am on the borderline of thinking she is just plain stupid.

She enlisted the help of a woman named Tionna who wrote a book that helps women “get their mind right” as she likes to say.  But I agree with some of the things Tionna said, she commented that women who can’t find Mr. Right need to look at themselves rather than blaming every man they meet.  Amen to that!!

They end up at a high class social function in Atlanta, and Tionna finds a guy who Chilli reluctantly thinks is cute.  Chilli agrees to go out with the guy, and Tionna shadows her at the next table.  We are then treated to Chilli asking the guy if he is gay, getting mad because he eats pork, then asking the guy if he was gay would he really tell her.  Huh?

I have to give the man credit for not getting up and walking out right there Chilli or not, and at that moment it confirmed to me that this show was going to be as bad as I guessed it would be.

This show illustrates the primary reason black men and women are not seeing things the same when it comes to dating.  This unrealistic list coupled with the fact that she had to “make sure” the guy was not on the down low, are things that black men run into every single day.  I am not going to blame it all on the women, but at some point the 6’ 7” basketball player dream has to stop.

From the previews of the rest of the season this show has to be taken off the air, I do not see what purpose it serves.  She is going to look like a fool, and it will be on display for the entire country to see.  Maybe there will be some happy ending when it is all over, but I think the regret from doing the show will overshadow any positives she gets out of it.
