Five Must Have iPhone Apps

There are thousands of applications available for the iPhone/iPod Touch, and if you look for a few minutes you can more than likely find an App that is useful for you. Here are five iPhone apps that are worth the price, and should be easy to find a practical use for them. I have never been one to buy into the “there is an app for that” mantra, but even I was able to find several apps that were useful to me, so here they are.
- Trapster – In the type of economy we live in today, there are many things we try to avoid spending our money on to get by. Well one of them is traffic tickets, and they get worse in a bad economy because the government needs money as well, and the easiest way is to extract it from it’s citizens in the form of fines. The information use by Trapster is user generated, and alerts users of the app to impending speed traps, traffic cameras, and other speed control locations. The app notifies the user as they draw near the speed trap, so that they can adjust accordingly. This application is also available on several other phone platforms.
- iFitness – For anyone that goes to the gym regularly, you surely have observed the people walking around with their clipboards or spiral bound notebooks used to track their daily workout routine. Most of the time these same people are wearing an mp3 player, so that is the perfect situation for iFitness. The app is loaded with over 100 exercises complete with pictures and instructions, and to top it off they give you nine custom routines in case you do not know how to get started with a workout. It is very easy to put in your routines and track your progress all while you listen to your music in the background.
- AroundMe – AroundMe is like a personal tour guide in your pocket. It acquires a user’s location and shows them the nearest bank, bar, gas station, hospital, hotel, movie theater, restaurant, supermarket, or anything else a guy may need at that particular moment. (You had to ask about massage parlors, wise guy.) This seems to be a fan favorite iPhone app people really need it because it’s perfect for individuals who are constantly in strange cities for work, pleasure or just lost and looking to hit an ATM, find decent grub or even a place to crash until the buzz wears off.
- Mint – Recession or no, you should always be trying to save money. Enter Mint. The popular online money-budgeting tool is now available on the smaller touch screen, so you can check and manage all your linked financial accounts on the go. The app will also send you an e-mail, text message or real-time alert in case of suspicious activity or if you go over your budget. Rest assured security measures are in place to deactivate access to your accounts if your iPhone is lost or stolen. The best thing about Mint is its budget-friendly cost: free.
- 5. Photoshop.com Mobile - With an entire section dedicated to photography, the App Store is riddled with free photo-editing apps that promise the moon but crash immediately upon launch. Which is exactly what Adobe’s Photoshop companion app doesn’t do? Photoshop.com Mobile lets you flip or crop images and add effects and filters; you can also store, edit and share photos from wherever you are. I cannot speak to how well this works with the iPhone Camera and Photos since I use an iPod touch, but all the other features lead me to believe that won’t be a problem.
