Twelve Strategies For Finding A Date On Facebook Pt. 2

Social networking websites have grown in popularity in recent years, Facebook has taken the lead as the most popular site taking the spot once held by Myspace.  Many people use social networking sites for a variety of reasons, but, there are many other uses, and one of them is dating.  Look it’s simple you have two single people who have similar interests, does it really matter how they meet?

Facebook has opened up the opportunity for people to screen and select a person they may be interested in dating, and much of this can be done without ever saying a word to the person.  With this new found avenue to meet people, there are still some rules and tactics that should be followed.  This is part two of a three part article on strategies you should use when trying to find a date on Facebook.

5.  – Check out The Friends Lists of Friends

Facebook is a powerful medium connecting people on many levels, and you should use that to your advantage.  Browse people who you are friends with friend’s lists, and take a quick look at anyone that catches your attention.  Now before you go adding the person as a friend, or sending them a message ask your friend about them and see if they can make a connection for you.  You of course do not want to know too much, but if the person has “issues” then it is always good to know that before you decide to get involved.  Don’t do this too often of course because your friends may get upset with the constant trolling for dates from their profile.

6. – Check People’s Looking For Section

Conduct a search of a city or school, and if you find someone you might be interested in check their profile.  In their “Looking For” section if they have a date or a relationship listed then that usually means they are open to dating someone who contacts them on Facebook.  This can be hit or miss though because many people hide their relationship status, and others don’t feel comfortable advertising that they are looking for a date on Facebook.

7. – Check the Relationship Status

In the simplest sense people who list their relationship status as single, are generally open to being contacted and meeting someone.  There are exceptions to this rule, but for the most part if you meet what they are looking for trust me they won’t mind.  Anyone who does not list their relationship status may be in a relationship and does not want to disclose it to the Facebook world for everyone to see. The person could also have baggage, or be dealing with the remnants of just leaving a relationship.  If the person does not have a status listed then they should not be contacted, unless you have a friend with knowledge of the situation then go to the next profile and try someone else.

8. – Take an interest in their Status Updates

If someone you are checking out is on your friends list then take an interest in their status updates.  If they post that they are in a bad mood or having a bad day, don’t be afraid to offer words or encouragement.  If they post that they are doing something interesting, and then strike up a conversation about it with them.  Remember all of this must be done in moderation, but at the same time remaining consistent with the contact.  Consistency is the key with this approach, but not being too annoying or over doing it.
