Swedish Man Sets Record With $1 Million Speeding Ticket! I Bet He Won’t Do That Again.

Most of us have complained about getting speeding tickets, they seemingly come at the most inconvenient times.  Then we get the lecture, and the option of doing the driving school it’s an annoying process to say the least.  Think of the worst ticket you have ever received and how horrible of an experience it was, that is nothing compared to what a Swedish man went through.

A Swedish man in a Mercedes SLS AMG sports car was clocked at 290km/h, which is only 180 miles per hour. Who hasn’t been driving that fast on the freeway?  Yeah right most of the vehicles we drive around can not come close to breaking the 180 mph speed barrier.  Most people in the United States drive over the speed limit at least once a week, but the 180 mph is actually not the record he set.

For what we consider a relatively modest speeds when we get ticket for driving 80 or 90 mph and get fine of about $267, this man was fined a shocking $1 million dollars. How is this possible? Because, in Sweden, the amount of the fine is based both on the speed of the driver and the wealth of the driver. It’s a pretty clever system, though the accused may disagree.

On some levels I agree with the way they hand out tickets over there, but I can imagine if I was a wealthy person paying over 6 or 7 figures for a ticket would feel absurd.  But, if you think about it that would force you to think about it before you decided to speed.  The poor mans car is currently impounded as he works to pay the ticket off, I am sure the guy has the money but he is just being stubborn.

To also put this into perspective the price of that vehicle starts at 177,310 Euros or $227,577.39 American Dollars, so the value of the ticket was more than four times the value of the car.  Some of us may have experienced this on the flip side, you have your beat up piece of crap vehicle worth about $500.  It breaks down, you take it to the repair shop and it will cost about $2000 to fix it, many in that situation have just abandoned the car.  In this case we know he is not going to abandon the car, but considering with the fine he received he could have purchased four of that car that has to sting a little bit.

I guess this is a valuable lesson, don’t speed in the end it is not worth it.  Here is a video of this vehicle in action, since most of us will probably never see one in person this is the closest we may get.
