It’s a new year and whether you make New Year’s resolutions or not, you should ditch bad habits regardless. Some of those bad habits pertain to your dating life, and people have been using the same “rules” when they meet someone new for years. Well some of those rules are old and not valid anymore, and you can easily argue that some were never valid. Dating evolves just like everything else in this world, and you need to ditch these old rules and try something different.
1. Wait for the guy to call you
Women seem to think that they should wait for a guy to call them because they don’t want to look “too” interested in him. Well calling someone you just met is normal, and you don’t have to profess your love for the guy when you call him. Just having a nice, getting to know you conversation will suffice, trust me the guy will be impressed and will remember you over all the other women who are waiting on him to call.
“Why does the guy always have to contact the woman after a date? We want to know you had fun just as much as you want to know we did! A cute text a few hours later or a short call the next day does the trick.” — Roland, 23
2. Lie about your busy weekend schedule so they (theoretically) want to go out with you even more
This has got to be one of the dumbest strategies I have ever seen people use when they are getting to know a person. I think people mistake this for people advising them to have a life outside of the relationship. You don’t have to fabricate things so that you look busy, eventually you are going to mess up your lies and they will see what you are doing. Then you will be wondering why they stopped calling you.
3. Call after the obligatory three days
I think most guys have used this at some point in their life, I think the last time for me was in high school. It was mostly employed to make the guy not appear so desperate for another date because the perception was that women would be turned off if you called too quickly after a date and would feel smothered. Smothering or being clingy is something that everyone wants to avoid because it is felt to be a sure fire way to turn a person off. You don’t have to wait three days to call, women want to know you are interested in them and that you want to go out with them again. There are good and bad ways to pull this off, but the simple act of calling after three days is not going to get you dumped.
“I find it frustrating that there are time lines of when it’s too early or too late to ask someone out again. Who knows what these time lines are and who set them anyway? If I like you, I want to ask you out on my schedule (which is right away) and not have anything read into it.” — Joseph, 35
4. Cook for your man
Fellas this is the new age get your ass in the kitchen and cook for your woman, there is nothing wrong with it and it is more than likely one of the most impressive things you can do for a woman (provided you know what the hell you are doing). Plus times have changed women are just as busy as men in their careers, and there is no guarantee that the woman you are talking too will have a clue how to cook anyway. If you are blessed to have skills in the kitchen then put them to good use, for a lot of women the way to their heart is through their stomach as well.
“We love the deal that if we cook, you’ll do the dishes, but frankly, we’d love to lose the idea that we always have to be the ones to cook.” — Tasha, 25
