Parking spaces are becoming increasingly smaller and scarce in this country while, vehicles seem to be getting bigger and wider. Most people are not driving around in luxury cars where they need to worry about every little ding and scratch, so most people don’t mind the fact that parking spaces have shrunk. There are a few times though where you are able to pull into a parking lot and have almost unlimited space to park your car without squeezing out of it because the car next to you didn’t leave you that much space.

It’s bliss when you pull into a virtually deserted parking lot, you park and there isn’t a car near you and there are eight or nine spaces between you and the next car. But then you comeback to your car after conducting your business only to find that there are cars now surrounding your car on all sides, and there is still an abundance of spaces no where near your car that they could have used? Why do people feel the need to park right next to someone when there is no advantage to it?

It makes sense if the space right next to yours is significantly closer to wherever they are going, or the sport affords some sort of shade. In most cases it really isn’t any advantage to park right by another vehicle if you can help it. It’s sort of like these people feel some kind of “warmth by parking directly next to another vehicle even if the parking lot is empty. Either way it’s annoying, and it’s one of the things that people tend to hate.

No other holiday annoys people more than Valentine’s Day, because it was a day that was manufactured by the flower and candies industries to make money. Men and Women (mostly men) are forced to go out and spend tons of money on chocolates and flowers which are marked up about 200% specifically for that day, in order to not end up in the doghouse with their significant other. It’s not even really a holiday because not many places are closed, and you have to take time off of work to make sure it won’t impede with the special day you are being forced to plan.

What makes the day so hateful is the simple fact that thousands of other people have to do the same thing, so it makes everything that much more annoying to do. You go to buy some chocolates for your significant other and the chocolate section at every store is ravaged of all the mid-priced candy. The only things left are the cheapest and most expensive candies, and knowing you have more stuff to get that is going to cost you. Then you go to get some sort of stuffed animal and the smallest, ugliest, and cheapest looking stuffed animals are left to choose from (they will know you cheaped it out).

If you manage to make it through both of those and grab some expensive flowers (that will die in a few days) then you are ready for the dinner and show or whatever event you have planned. This is the most annoying part about Valentine’s Day, you get dressed up and go to some fancy restaurant and it’s slammed! There is a one hour wait, but it’s the place they have always wanted to eat so you suck it up and wait to be seated. Once the night has finished you can exhale.

The truth of the matter is if you do something on February 14th or February 15th it should not matter, the day on the calendar should not matter. If your significant other does something special for you no matter what the day then it’s a great thing, but because a person does not do something on a day “mandated” by corporations that does not mean they care any less about you. It actually means they care more because they picked a random day you were not expected and made it a special one.

We all know that dogs have been anointed as “man’s best friend”, but that does not mean you have to take your dog with you everywhere. There is an exception of course seeing eye dogs for blind people is a necessity they do not really have a choice in the matter since the dog is basically they only way they can get around without running into things. Everyone else there is no excuse, and people will say things like “the dog is family” that may be true, but animals are not considered family for everyone. There is nothing more annoying than going to your favorite store, and you run into a dog mean mugging you as you shop. Then the dog starts barking as if you have done something to offend it, and the owner turns around and apologizes for “poochies” barking at you. Guess what? You would not have to apologize if the dog was not int he store with you in the first place!

The logic behind this makes no sense, and it’s only understandable to some degree if your dog was with you because you were taking it to or from a vet appointment. Even then you should leave the dog in your car with the windows cracked, there is no reason to bring it in the store with you (especially not in a stroller). The worst example of this is when you see affluent people who feel the need to carry a small dog around with them in their purse as they go shopping like it’s an accessory or something. This does not serve much of a purpose, are they that insecure with themselves that they have to tote something along with them that will always make them feel better about themselves?

Taking your dog for a walk or to the park is perfectly acceptable, or even places that encourage people to bring pets. The people frequenting those places will have some sort of idea that a pet may be present, and can choose whether they want to patronize the establishment or not. If you are a person who is allergic to dogs, and you go to a place where you do not expect them that can be a miserable experience for you if someone there decides to bring their pet to be cute. In some cases people who are allergic to dogs could DIE from being around them, so if you feel the need to take your dog someplace with people please consider the other people who will be there as well!

If you live in a big city it is a fairly safe assumption that you have had to deal with some level of bad traffic unless you are in one of those cities with good public transportation as an alternative. The vast majority of people who deal with the annoyance of heavy traffic every day have come to accept it as part of living in a highly populated city. People hate traffic, but what people hate more is the people and incidents that make traffic worse than it needs to be.

There is always some sort of construction going on as city planners who do not have a clue continually expand roads that should have been three or four lanes when they were initially built. Drivers have even learned to live with the traffic delays generated by construction, and generally avoid the area by finding an alternative route. Over time drivers become more tolerant of those sort of delays because they are common and at least hint at some future improvement once the construction is completed.

With all of that being said there is one thing that drivers absolutely can’t stand, and that is the constant accidents on major roadways. The reason drivers hate this is because most accidents can be avoided if people were paying attention and not doing other things in their car while they were driving. Many drivers don’t obey traffic rules of signaling before changing lanes which leads to rear end collisions, and when one of these happens during rush hour it can turn a long commute into a nightmare.

The worst part after the accident happens is the string of rubber neckers who have to slowdown and look at the accident as they coast by at 5 miles per hour to see if someone died. As you come up to the accident you see that it is on the side of the road, and the only reason things are slow is people being nosey. All drivers have some form of anger they display at this point, but they reserve a special kind of anger for the person who was in the accident that made them late for work. It’s a different story if someone dies or is seriously injured, but as drivers pass by and there is a guy who rear ended someone on the phone with his insurance company it pisses people off. The glare that is given to this person is second to none, and for the moment they driver is passing them they hate that person more than anyone in the world.

People are creatures of habit, and it seems that every year there are hundreds of people who make New Years Resolutions to get in the gym and start a health kick. If you’re that person who attends the gym regularly you are surely annoyed by these people, you are on your routine the entire year and have incorporated the gym into part of your life. Then at the beginning of the year you walk in and there are hundreds of people in the gym, and you have to park at the back of the facility because of the crowd.

The most annoying part is you try to ignore all these new people and they make it impossible because they are filling up almost every machine, and having conversations about their “New Dedication” to slimming down in 2011. You can’t get your workout finished in the same amount of time, and forget about doing Cardio until much later in the night because every elliptical machine and treadmill are full.

There is nothing wrong with people wanting to take control of their health, but a little consistency never hurt anyone. The fact that 60% of gym memberships go unused is a sign that most of the people who get a gym membership on New Years to try and meet that resolution actually fail, and just end up costing themselves more money. Don’t sign up for the gym unless you plan on being in it for the long haul, otherwise you are just throwing your money away. This is one of the main reasons why New Year’s is the Black Friday for the gym and fitness industry, it is the time when they sell the most memberships.

If you are one of those that made a resolution to get healthier and signed up at a gym congratulations, but please follow some general etiquette when you are there. Always wipe down the machines when you are finished, don’t sit on a machine and have an extended conversation, and be sure you know how to use the machine before you sit down and start using it. Those tips will help you to be less annoying to the people you are working out with.

Definitely a Troll best dealt with through silence being that after a number of comments you can go back and read his/her entry and laugh. The Wallflower Troll is the one commenter to throw a personal opinion out there just because it is unpopular. They don’t really aim for replies – and if people do reply it’s normally to personally attack them or my personal favorite reply which is “ok”. Here is an example of a Wallflower Troll’s comment (the post was a biography on Billie Holiday):

Commenter 01 – Wow Billie Holiday was an awesome Jazz singer

Commenter 02 – I have all of her albums, definitely one of a kind!

Wallflower Troll – I may be the only one but I never found her voice to be all that great.

Commenter 03 – I am a Sara Vaughn fan but Billie was on another level.

Now you see the flow there? It seems to be some sort of brain lapse which drives the Wallflower Troll to post, I mean, how is dissing a long dead Billie Holiday adding anything to the conversation other than making everyone assume you’re an asshole? In the post that I lifted the example from, the wallflower then goes on to douse the incoming flames by stating that she was a jazz fan.

This behavior seems to be a thing more popular among the younger television raised crowd. You know… the kids who didn’t go outside to jump their bikes, play baseball or meet other kids. I see a ton of this on the IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes forums, mostly from the kids that haven’t hit 20 yrs old yet. Like I said before, this activity normally goes ignored or the person gets their ass handed to them – leading to them barely posting anymore or recanting their original position.

Gamer nerds seem to be a bit forgiving of this type of troll, giving them genuine conversation and even asking them to explain their stance. This strange phenomenon occurs a lot on gaming websites like Kotaku, where the repulsive gamer virgin can safely hide behind a monitor and dog out female cosplayers without worry. These guys will say things like “she looks like a dude” or “— has done so much better” yet aren’t lambasted with the deserved flames that any other board would offer.

The best comeback for the Wallflower is a simple “ok”, hoping that the other people in the community comply to not answer them. Observe my version of the same commentary:

Commenter 02 – I have all of her albums, definitely one of a kind!

Wallflower Troll – I may be the only one but I never found her voice to be all that great.

Commenter 03 – Okay.

Commenter 04 – I am a Sara Vaughn fan but Billie was on another level.

This lets them know that you see their comment as being a worthless addition to the conversation. It’s kind of the verbal way of turning to look at someone aloofly when they inject some stupid comment at the dinner table. No worries on counter attacks leading to derailing the topic at hand. Wallflower Trolls are harmless.

There are many names that can be used for this type of person, but DoucheBag seems to be the most fitting and appropriate term for them. Another commonly used term to refer to these types of people is D-Bag, which is used if you decide you want to shorten it up a bit. You know the type overly cocky, tries to fit in with as many trends as possible at the same time and just ends up looking pathetic. Typically rude and lacks any sort of class or respect for most people, they are typically found pursuing women who do not want to be pursued by them.

People hate D-Bags because they are rude, and when in public generally are always the loudest or cause some sort of scene to draw attention to themselves. The worst part about it is people can never tell if they are a hipster, thug, or pretty boy, hipster because their style is a combination of every current fad all muddled together. This initially throws people off as the D-Bag approaches, but once they open their mouth people then realize who they are dealing with.

People scratch their heads when dealing with D-Bags. They start to wonder what fashion statement they are trying to make combining a “live strong” bracelet with a pink Polo shirt. Most are still puzzled at the popularity of the popped collar phenomena, the shirt was made with a collar for a reason and it was not meant to stand straight up! You are unfortunately going to run into your share of Douchebags every day, just make sure to not fall into the same traps they did. Trying to keep up with every fashion and social trend is a recipe for disaster, find what works for you and you will avoid becoming a D-Bag.
