Another weekend rolls around but you have no one special to share it with. You get into your bed at night alone and wonder, “am I desirable to the opposite sex?”  You have probably heard friends or family members comment that they are unable to deal with being single, and these are the people who end up going from relationship to relationship.  In reality a lot of people prefer being miserable in a relationship than being single because “at least they are not alone”.  When you fear being alone, you’re much more likely to make bad choices and end up getting involved with and staying in bad relationships because it distracts you from feeling lonely.

#2: You’re Getting Old and the Clock is Running Out

A common theme that comes from mostly women is the fear of nearing 40 years old.  Many women feel that is the age where you should no longer have children because there is a higher risk of birth defects.  Men know this as well, and when they meet a woman in her late 30’s they feel like it’s an all or nothing proposition in some cases if they want to have children.  This usually leads to added pressure on both parties, and it leads to bad decisions on both sides because of this mythological time frame.  The truth is plenty of people have children after they are 40 years old, and there are many other factors that can lead to birth defects even before a woman turns 40 years old.  A relationship should not be based on two people getting together because time is running out, it will fail in most cases.

#3: Giving In To Social Pressure

All of us have been here, we see family and friends in happy relationships, and it’s even more awkward when you show up to events as the only one without a date?  Seeing the love and luck that other couples are having in relationships can make you feel an intense level of pressure to find the right lasting relationship quickly.  These people don’t help either with family members constantly asking the question, “when are you getting married?”.  So, you decide to cave in and go out and get with the first person you have the chance too, but this is a bad decision and will create problems.  The person in your life may feel like you’re more interested in the idea of a good relationship than you are in him or  her, and this can lead to the feeling of desperation on your part which could push the other person away.

#4: Filling The Void

If you believe that a loving relationship will ease the emptiness inside you, the harsh reality is that no relationship is ever going to be able to “fill you up.”  If you still try to do this, it’s almost certain that the person in your life will start to feel this and be turned off and not want to deal with your personal baggage.  Every relationship has a honeymoon period and once that has ended, that “filled up” feeling will go away.  That will lead to things like no matter what he or she does or says, ultimately it won’t be good enough or feel good enough for you.  This “void” is the very thing that makes you so vulnerable to the wrong relationships in the first place.  It will lead you to get involved not because a person or a relationship is right for you, but because you are driven to fill the void.  Spend some time working on yourself and building up your self esteem before pulling another person in and hoping they can make you feel good about yourself.

#5: Because the Sex was Good

Times have changed and people are having more sex than ever, and in many situations this happens before the two are ever in a relationship.  When the sex ends up being good it can often lead to people believing that they should be in a relationship with that person because a lot of emphasis is placed on the sexual experience.  Once in the relationship it quickly becomes evident that sex is what’s holding things together, and the other person may start to feel like that’s the only reason you in a relationship with them.  Focusing on sex can lead to horrible decisions overall, because a persons prowess in the bedroom does not mean that they are going to be a good significant other.

What’s the Solution?

If you feel like you end up repeating the same kind of painful situations in your relationships, and you want to stop the cycle from repeating itself.  You likely need to stop letting yourself feel out of control, only you own and control your life. Once you take the control back, you can start taking steps to bring about the change you want.  You should also remember that there are many potential people out there that are a good fit for you, take your time and find the right fit rather than trying to force something to work.

Wow.  Nowadays anyone can be a hip-hop artist; just post a video of yourself rapping on YouTube and there you have it, millions of people for you to show off your efforts. Then you have the radio that only plays what the record label pays them the most money.

Bootlegging music is bigger than ever, it seems like you can’t go anywhere without someone asking you if you want to buy a CD. The market is getting watered down with people who are as talented as a Justin Beiber cover band. There are only a few people making life changing amounts of money, and that list is the same each year. I’m just hoping hip-hop doesn’t fall to the wayside like heavy metal and acid rock did.

Wait what?  The Nokia Lumia 900 is an awesome phone, but it’s a bit surprising that Siri would recommend a major competitor.  I actually applaud Apple for not coding in some devious function that would default it to their phones.

But really, an iPhone 4S-only service prompting you to check out a rival device when you ask it what the best handset is?  Fans of other platforms Blackberry, Android, Windows Phone are all having their fun with this.

The explanation is Siri bases its answer to that particular question on results from Wolfram Alpha, which itself draws from users reviews Web-wide.  User satisfaction rates for the Lumia 900 in the United States happen to be very high, hence why Wolfram Alpha will tell you that it’s the ‘best smartphone ever’.  So, maybe Apple should focus on ways to beat out the Lumia with their iPhone 5, so that next time someone asks Siri that question the answer will be the iPhone.

Let me just stop here for a moment and mention that I hate the Anson character. Not a “Oooh, he’s so evil, I love hating him!” sort of thing. No, I just hate him. I think he’s a bad character. I don’t buy for a second that he’s capable of doing all the things he’s supposed to have done. I also don’t like the actor, Jere Burns, either. Additionally, it seems as though he had something done to the middle of his forehead during the season and now it doesn’t move when the rest of his forehead does. It’s distracting and unnecessary. Anyway, just had to mention that. Moving on.

Back at the loft, Fiona is enraged. She wanted to kill Anson. Sam announces he found in the files a place where Anson might be keeping the evidence against Fiona. I don’t understand why they haven’t killed him. I know it’s not what they do normally but they’ve all killed people in the past.

Pearce gives Michael his own mission to run. He even gets an official CIA team, one of whom is Dean Cain. Always nice to have Superman on your side.

Sam and Fi decide to break into the not-so-abandoned warehouse so they can talk to the guy that’s inside about Anson and his plans. Fi tells Sam to get a a big truck.

Dean Cain is set to hit the vehicle with Michael’s target so they can grab the guy. Unfortunately, a minivan pulls into his path, he swerves but Dean’s car does some mid-air spinning before landing. Good thing he was wearing his seat belt. The target, however, gets away.

Jesse goes to the conference where the target is recruiting spies, hoping to get recruited. The guy takes the bait and is ready to take Jesse out of the country.

Meanwhile, Fiona hitches up the truck and pulls down one of the warehouse’s walls. The warehouse is full of weapons. Anson’s guy in the warehouse is worried about Anson being paranoid and threatening him. Fiona makes it very clear that they are emptying the warehouse and he is coming with them. Well, Fiona and Sam leave first, the guy follows. He stops to turn off the beeping from the keypad by the door and BOOM! The warehouse explodes. Sam and Fi are blown off their feet but are otherwise okay.

Michael meets with Anson. Anson wants to start using Michael’s CIA team for his operations. He asks Michael to put some info on Pearce ’s computer which will result in the team, excluding Michael, being burned.

Fiona and Sam do not want Michael to do it. They don’t want the agents to get burned. Michael doesn’t want Fiona to go to jail.

Michael and his team break into the hangar and plant a gun in the plane for Jesse to get later.

Fiona gets fed up after talking to one of Sam’s police friends who won’t help. Michael leaves the operation. He find Fi back at the loft. He says he’s willing to do whatever it takes to keep her out of jail. She’s ready to turn herself into the FBI. They embrace and he handcuffs her to a post so she can’t leave.

Michael makes it back to the operation. He puts the info on Pearce ’s computer. Michael then goes to check on Dean Cain. Everything is good until Michael finds out that one agent is using overpressured rounds. For some reason, this causes Michael to tell Dean to stand down as he leaves and goes to check on the agent. She’s not there when he gets there, so he goes through her stuff. He finds what he’s looking for and turns around, pulling a gun on the agent. She’s working for Anson. She’s planning on blowing up the plane. She drives off but Michael has the detonator. He tells his team the plan has changed. He calls for covering fire and he blows up the plane before Jessee gets on. During the firefight, Michael drives up behind the target in an airport security vehicle and has them get in the car. It’s pretty smooth. He drives away from the firefight with them both and but soon stops the car. He tells Jesse to deliver the target to Pearce and to destroy the computer with the information that Michael uploaded.

Michael drives back to the loft. Sam is there and Fi is gone. She is going to turn herself in.

Michael is driving like a crazy person — no, crazier than usual, even. Anson calls, disappointed about what happened at the airport. Michael tells him tough, that he’s done working for him.

Fiona is walking up the stairs of the federal building and Michael is running after her shouting her name. She sees him. An agent walks out, asks what her name is and if she’s surrendering. Agents surround her and she’s handcuffed.

We hear voiceover from Fiona narrating the note she left Michael talking about how she loves Michael and for him to continue being the man she loves, she can’t let him do bad things to keep her out of prison.

The fallout from Anson’s confession to killing Michael’s father is limited to a brief visit to Frank Westen’s grave by Michael and Maddie at the beginning of the episode. Michael is naturally skeptical of anything Anson says, but Maddie doesn’t seem to have any trouble believing it. Either way, this is something that will have to wait for the finale to play out, because Michael has another old friend to visit this week. After checking into Anson’s finances, he and Fi discover a connection to last season’s Big Bad, Vaughn (Robert Wisdom), now serving a life sentence at Guantanamo Bay. Michael arranges with Pearce to have Vaughn temporarily transferred to a Tampa prison in hopes of getting some information about Anson’s plans out of him.

This is the first of this week’s developments that had my personal plausibility-o-meter pushing into the red. It’s not that I ever expect realism from Burn Notice, but I would at least hope for a little internal consistency. I couldn’t quite buy that Pearce would come around so quickly to doing this huge favor for Michael without even asking for much of an explanation in return. I mean, I have to imagine that getting prisoners transferred out of Gitmo isn’t just a matter of a little red tape, and Pearce has had so much reason to distrust Michael so far, I had a hard time buying her expedience in this matter. But letting that slide for now, it’s always good to see Bunny Colvin… er…Vaughn again, even though that orange jumpsuit isn’t doing him any favors. (They feed ‘em well down in Gitmo, I guess.)

The client for the main case this week is Ian, an old colleague of Jesse’s from the State Department, now assigned to Yash, a diplomat with the Indian consulate. Yash has been smuggling blood diamonds in his diplomatic pouch in full view of Ian, who can no longer live with the massacre of innocents on his conscience. With Jesse posing as a diamond buyer, Ian sets up a meet with Yash in hopes of taking him and his operation down. (This leads into this week’s “Where are they getting all this money?” conundrum, when Sam and Fi are forced to bribe a jewelry store owner $20,000 in order to prove to Yash that Jesse has a means of cutting and selling the diamonds.)

When their initial attempt at nailing Yash fails, Burn Notice treads into dicey moral territory. It seems Ian is suffering from pancreatic cancer and has been told he has six months to live. He’d rather go out in a hail of bullets at the hands of Yash, whose diplomatic immunity would not extend to murder. As hard as it was to believe Pearce would go along with Michael’s plan, it was even tougher to swallow that Michael and Jesse would be up for having any part of this. Sure, you can justify it by saying Ian is going to die anyway, and his sacrifice might save lives in the diamond mines (but probably not, since as long as there’s a demand for the diamonds, someone else will be willing to fill it). But it still seemed out of character to me; with as many crazy schemes as Michael and the gang have come up with over the years, surely they could have thought of a better plan than this.

Nevertheless, they go through with it, leaving only the matter of Vaughn teeing us up for the season finale by revealing Anson’s master plan. It seems he’s putting his organization back together again, and it may already be too late for Michael to stop him.

So, Jesse and Fiona headed to Cayman Island’s to blackmail a scummy banker into retrieving 200 million dollars. They had all the confidential criminal information needed and were quite successful in getting the banker to withdraw from the flagged account. Jesse and Fi eventually were delivered the money by the banker which called for a sudden death for him considering his illegal activity. It was a fake death to give the forensics the obvious conclusion. Two Hundred million dollars was now for the man who helped ruin Michael’s life. How great.

In other horrible news, Sam’s old contact, Beatriz (from The Fall of Sam Axe Film) comes to Miami for desperate help in fleeing from a Russian killer named Oscar. She apparently composed several confidential articles that led to her sojourn from Russia. The Russian assassin followed her to Miami and it became the team’s job to help keep her safe. The only thing – Anson was recruited in for this special assignment because of his profiling abilities. After being shot at a few times by Oscar, both Sam and Beatriz laid low in a trailer near the shore to evade the killer. Oscar bugged their phone (don’t know how) which was hours before they entered the trailer which obviously gave him enough time to setup shop near the trailer. A few shots were fired after Mike warned Sam of his presence. Though Beatriz took a little shrapnel from the windows, Sam created an exit for her exclusively and held off Oscar. Meanwhile, Mike and Anson approached Ivan (Oscar’s Russian superior) to get him to call the hit off. For a win-win move, Ivan convinced Oscar to stop the hit because of new information regarding Beatriz being a friendly so that Beatriz and Sam would be safe and Oscar would get a bullet somewhere by Ivan. Beatriz was treated at the hospital and just to Mike’s luck Anson tagged along. The help by Anson wasn’t gratified but Anson presented Mike with other information with which he might’ve thanked him for. The death of Mike’s father – Frank Westen.

The heart-attack which we learned of first season wasn’t accidental. It was in fact a strategic move by Anson and management. It was planned. Not sure how Mike felt considering his animosity towards Frank but it sure should be information relayed to Madeline; possibly in the next episode. “Acceptable Loss” – 12/8: Jesse calls in the team to help stop a smuggler from bringing blood diamonds into the country. Elsewhere, Michael needs assistance transferring a prisoner who could have information on Anson.

One thing that people tend to enjoy over steady-state cardio is that going for a run doesn’t seem to cause you to breathe hard or break a sweat until 6-7 minutes into the workout, the first sprint of a HIIT session while get you further into the sweat zone than you would ever get just going for a morning jog.  As you progress, increase your speeds in both the sprint and recovery phases, increase sprint times, and reduce recovery periods.  This is done at your leisure with whatever schedule you are comfortable with.

The reason HIIT is recommended and used heavily by weightlifters is because it will get your body to burn fat faster by speeding up your metabolism.  Comparing regular running it seems to take eight to ten minutes for the runner to even feel a significant increase in core temperature or respiratory rate. With high-intensity interval training, those achievements are usually met during the first sprint.

You can look up several HIIT plans on the internet that will map out the walk/run balance and how to gradually move up and achieve the goals you are looking for.  Keep in mind that, although we use the term “sprint,” HIIT Cardio does not need to be done through jogging (on a track, trails or treadmill). You can just as effectively perform it on an elliptical, bike, Airdyne, rower, stepmill or whatever cardio device you prefer.  So, next time you get in the mood to try losing weight or you want to do something different to stay in shape, give HIIT a shot.
