Diary of The Marksman: Solid Poker Play doesn’t always equal a win

By The Marksman at December 14, 2010 | 10:23 am | 0 Comment

I went to play at my favorite spot last night the Banea School of Poker, I haven't played over there in a while because of school, work, gym, and all other parts of life. It is a welcome change playing with real people instead of online with the crazies on party poker and ultimate bet. One of the Banea clan qualified for the WSOP main event, and I am more excited more...

Shannon Elizabeth is better at Poker than you.

Shannon Elizabeth is one of the most “forthcoming” poker babes, meaning she doesn’t mind taking off most of her clothes in front of the camera. Apart from that, she’s also made some good money off  of the big live events with total tournament winnings of almost $140,000. Before going into the “poker celebrity business”, Shannon Elizabeth was a more...

Playing the “right” cards does not always mean you will win at Poker!

It has happened to us all, you are dealt a big hand and end up losing with AKs to players who will call your pre-flop raise because they "just had a feeling" about their 58 off-suit.  You get knocked out and start to wonder where it all went wrong. If you are anything like me, you let those bad beats and hands affect you into your next poker session. You are so more...

In Poker Going All-In is not always the Best Strategy!

Like many poker player out there I savor the joy of going all-in, pushing your chips into the pot and watching the outcome is one of the most exciting experiences in this world. But for professionals and competitive Poker players it can be agonizing, cruel, puzzling, and just down right nasty. As I have played Poker online, in local Casinos, and in Major Vegas Poker more...

If you follow poker at all by now you have heard about the robbery during the Pokerstars European Poker Tour (EPT) Berlin main event.  Apparently six men with assault rifles (allegedly), knives, and other weapons stormed the registration desk and made off with less than a million euros (conflicting reports).  You can go see the video here (seems to be the only site more...

Poker Strategy: The Importance of Playing Position!

Position is far more important than the hands you're dealt, the players at your table, or the size of your stack is the position you have in the current hand. There are other factors that will help determine your success at the game but your position is at the top of the list. Poker is a long term game, but position is a short term idea. To win in the long term, more...

Poker Strategy: Sometimes saying nothing is your best weapon!!

Poker is an information game. The more information you have (and the better you are at acquiring it), the better you'll do. One of the biggest edges you can get over your opponents is having more information than them about the hand in play.  So why on earth would you offer up that information to them when they need it most? Fishing for Info The more you talk more...

Poker Strategy: Keep Good Financial Records

When you start playing poker whether it be professionally, or just for fun in your spare time you need to make sure you are keeping good and accurate financial records.  A lot of players don't do this they just put some money in their online poker accounts or head down to their local card room, and start playing without any idea of how much they are losing or winning more...

Back from Las Vegas!!!

By The Marksman at July 5, 2007 | 1:57 pm | 0 Comment

So, I am back in Tampa after a fun time in Vegas. Reflecting on the last few days I can only come up with positive experiences. I found my Blackjack stride (Thanks to Adrian/Monica), and the one time I played cash I came out in the Green. A big difference between the Pocket Queens debacle last year where I lost $140 bucks in 1 hand. I think I am now addicted to Roulette more...

The Marksmans Returns

By The Marksman at February 2, 2007 | 1:48 am | 0 Comment

I haven't posted an update in a long time, primarily my education was in the way and taking up a lot of time. There were also a few family issues here, and there but for the most part those are behind me. Perhaps the biggest reason is the attack on poker by the U.S. government, I had money sitting in various places and sites started shutting down because of the UIGA. more...
